Publication Description

This short and reasonably priced bestseller explores different approaches and models of leadership in an innovative and critical manner.

Are you looking for alternative ways of looking at leadership beyond the prescriptive 'how to' approach that dominates bookshelves - for a book that realises that leadership is a relational activity and will, therefore, not just tell you what to do but encourage to think in fresh and innovative ways. The first edition of this popular and acclaimed book quickly became a favourite among students for the pithy and engaging way in which it guided them through the cacophony of competing perspectives and models of leadership. The Second Edition continues to take readers out of their comfort zones with expanded discussion of hot topics like followership, gender, ethics, authenticity and leadership and the arts set against the backdrop of the global financial crisis. In teaching you how to critically appraise and work with leadership theories rather than faithfully accept them, this book will not merely make you a better student of leadership; it could make you a better leader too.

Publication Review

The title is only partially correct - this book is "extremely" interesting rather than "fairly" interesting and has managed to pack more wisdom into 150 pages than almost any other leadership book available. The authors have done all students of leadership a great service with this little gem Professor Keith Grint Warwick Business School, University of Warwick

This has been the most helpful book I have read during my entire first year as a PhD student. Reading this book felt like having a good mentor nearby Robert Strand Ph.D. Fellow Copenhagen Business School
Just a quick thank you to the authors for writing their book on leadership, I bought the first edition and have just bought the second edition. I am in educational leadership and the book has been thought provoking and provided focus for my thoughts David Bishop Deputy Headteacher, Teaching and Learning Fakenham High School and College, Norfolk
Libraries, bookstores and the internet are full of publications on leadership. This book cuts through the rhetoric and gets to the core issues. It is user-friendly. A must read for anyone interested in leadership Bill Synnot Management Consultant
