BS 8500-2:2015+A1:2016 Concrete. Complementary British Standard to BS EN 206. Specification for constituent materials and concrete

The BS 8500 series has recently been amended to address a number of required clarifications for the additional United Kingdom complementary provisions to be used in conjunction with BS EN 206. It provides substantial national provisions not covered in BS EN 206. It also covers materials, methods of testing and procedures that are outside the scope of BS EN 206, but within national experience.

The new versions of BS 8500-1 and BS 8500-2 will come into effect on 16th July 2016 to allow ready mix concrete manufacturers transition to the new requirements set out in these standards.

Who is the standard for?

This document is important for all members of a construction project who provide or require information on ready mix concrete, including:

  • Construction contractors, specialists, and manufacturers
  • Specifiers and structural engineers

What does the standard cover?

BS 8500-2 is part of the BS 8500 series and specifies constituent materials and concrete. This document is the essential guide for the concrete producer and contains specifications for constituent materials and concrete. BS 8500-2 complements BS EN 206. It provides national provisions where required or permitted by BS EN 206. It also covers materials, methods of testing and procedures that are outside the scope of BS EN 206, but within national experience.

What’s new?

The amended standard features the following principal changes:

  • Changes necessary to align with publication of EN 206
  • Changes resulting from new or revised European Standards published since 2003
  • Alignment with conformity assessment and accreditation policy in the United Kingdom
  • Introduction of designated cement bound concrete
